This portrait named ‘Luis’ is composed of entirely coffee and sugar.

The Area Youth council of Málaga continues to support young talent in the city, encouraging artists to show their work in public spaces to promote their creations.

This time, La Caja Blanca will host the exhibition ‘I’M’ by up and coming artist David Albarrán.

The exhibition, which will run from 25 June to 30 July, is composed of seven pieces – large format portraits and self-portraits created from everyday objects including cigarette butts, nails, staples, safety pins and even coffee…

Over 800 cigarette butts were used to create this portrait.

Pieces to note include a large portrait consisting solely of around 5,000 staples in addition to one created with over 20 boxes of matches and also a portrait carefully crafted from more than 800 cigarette butts.

His approach to creating art is novel and a wonderful exploration of the effects of the unique mediums he uses. Almost in an alchemic fashion, he transforms daily inanimate objects into pieces of art.
Albarrán’s works have also been exhibited in many other places across Spain including Madrid, Cádiz and Sevilla.

La Caja Blanca, located on Avenida Editor Ángel Caffarena in Torre Atalaya, is a recreational resource for young local artists that provides them with a ‘stage’ to promote their innovative projects to the public for free.

David Albarrán uses everyday objects such as staples to create his art.

The experimental way in which David Albarrán manipulates his unusual mediums, certainly triggers my curiosity and I encourage you to support our local emerging talent and enjoy these unique works!
