HOT Costa del Sol - Cameras Roll for VIVA Vendors
No strangers to the world of television, when VIVA were recently invited to take part in not one but two major new primetime property and lifestyle shows - to be aired on both sides of the Atlantic - well, it absolutely made our day!...
The British series is still under wraps and although filming on the Costa del Sol has already begun, we're not at liberty to say much about it for now. But we can tell you about the Canadian series to be broadcast coast-to-coast in North America next spring.
"IN FACT, WE’LL DO BETTER THAN THAT. WE'LL TAKE YOU BEHIND THE SCENES"
The stars of the show? A fabulous 5-bed, 5 bath villa with breathtaking countryside views in Alhaurin de la Torre; and a stunning 3-bed, 2 bath villa in Benalmadena with sea views to die for. Both properties are currently for sale with VIVA and priced at €499,000 and €750,000 respectively. And appearing alongside sassy TV host/presenter Shantelle Canzanese, none other than VIVA property consultant Juan Carlos Silva, making his onscreen debut!
Billed as a fantasy real estate show, the brand new Live Here, Buy This TV series is the brainchild of Toronto-based JV Productions Inc., one of Canada's leading independent production companies specialising in the genres of lifestyle, reality and factual-based television.
“Our 26-episode programme is for cable-TV network HGTV (Home & Garden Television) operating in the US and Canada," explains associate producer Ken Seeback. "What we do is to ask North American homeowners where they fantasize about living and what they imagine their lifestyle would be like in the places they dream of. Then at the end of each show, we ask them if their fantasies have lived up to their expectations and if so, which house and location they would choose."
Before arriving in Europe, the globetrotting Live Here, Buy This production teams had already been filming in the US and Canada, and while 'our' crew was filming in Portugal and Spain, their colleagues were shooting in Italy, Croatia, the UK and Ireland... with France, Austria, Thailand and South America also on the agenda. Not surprisingly the series will be franchised across Europe, and I imagine around the world.
Having already been shooting in Lisbon, Lagos, Albufeira, Cordoba and Granada, the Costa del Sol was the last stop on the crew's Iberian tour. They'd previously selected the villas that most closely matched their criteria from a shortlist prepared by VIVA's Customer Services and Vendor Services teams, and VIVA photographer Jorge Morales and I were off to meet up with the Live Here, Buy This crew - and our remarkably composed colleague Juan Carlos Silva - for Day 1 of filming: The pretty detached house with pool in Alhaurin de la Torre. And with 8 of us milling around - including director, Tony Wong; camera operator, Matt Clayson; and sound recordist, Sean Feldstein - it's just as well there was plenty of room.
Eight hours of filming, takes and retakes later, the first property was in the can and the production team were off to their hotel in Malaga to prepare for Day 2: The villa in Benalmadena with the stunning pool and those fabulous sea views. As before, the crew spent all day filming the property and what with Jorge also shooting the crew filming the property, well the best thing yours truly could do was just try and keep out of everyone's way.
Day 3 was 'b-roll day' — scenic shoot day to you and me, and then the Costa del Sol segment of the series was a wrap. So having filmed in so many stunning locations, what did the crew think of the Costa del Sol? Well, actually, they were blown away. "It's got everything. Sea, mountains, a great lifestyle, fabulous properties... We were really impressed with Malaga," Ken said, "so much so that if it wasn't for our busy schedule we'd have loved to have spent an extra day here filming a property in the city."
Meanwhile, with the British series of ten 1-hour Costa del Sol property and lifestyle shows also coming to our screens soon, I don't know about you, but I reckon it's high time I bought myself a plasma TV.Please note: Every effort was made to check the accuracy of the information contained within our archived HOT Properties Magazine articles at the time of originally going to press, but may well have been superseded over the ensuing years.
