Red Penguin Art Gallery in Marbella

The 'Live your dream' exhibition in Marbella is open until 15 January 2014

The Red Penguin Art Gallery at El Capricho, El Corte Inglés in Marbella hosted the opening ceremony of their latest exhibition ‘Live your dream’ on Friday 15 November.

Open until 15 January 2014, spiritually glamorous, ‘Live your dream’ is a treat for the eyes, featuring around 30 works of art from a collection of different artists. An exhibition of contemporary art works using modern and mixed mediums, the works on view range from colourful, dynamic installations to futuristic, powerful digital paintings and impressive 4D, mixed-media pieces…

Guitarist Peter Kalb

Guitarist Peter Kalb was present to entertain the guests during the opening

During the opening, snacks and drinks were in abundance and guitarist Peter Kalb was present to entertain with beautiful finger-style guitar as guests admired new original artworks from many of the gallery’s regular artists. The exhibition is also featuring 4 new artists for the first time who were present to talk about their pieces.

One of my personal favourite artists of the exhibition was Isabell Beyel. The German autodidact’s pieces were aesthetically pleasing – simple in idea, thrifty in form, and profound in effect. Using mixed media, combining corks, CDs and other recyclable objects with photography and other mediums she creates multi-dimensional pieces heavily inspired by femininity. Strong and powerful, the 4D technique Beyel uses is very impressive and well-worth seeing to fully appreciate.

Monique Bastiaans' collection at the newly opened 'Live your dream' exhibition in Marbella

Another favourite collection of mine was that of Belgium-born, Monique Bastiaans. Her creative collection stands out emitting beauty with purpose. Bastiaans creates lively, bright installations, temporary public interventions and sculptures that bring a dynamic energy to natural spaces, industrial areas and urban environments. Her innovative and unique work centres on love and nature whilst capturing a playful energy. The use of varied materials within her inspiring work shows a strong link between colour, form and material whilst revealing her expressive range.

New artworks from gallery regular, Joseph Klibansky, show dream-like perceptions of urban environments such as cities and architecture, combining romantic concepts of reality with a somewhat utopian future. An open mind can maybe see past the many layers of this idealised perfection to his real message, perhaps hinting towards the beauty laying forgotten behind our ever increasingly digitalised world.

'Live your dream' in Marbella is an explosion of colour through dreamy, abstract works

Described as ‘new-media’, Klibansky’s idealistic digital paintings are built up using 300-600 layers of photography, acrylic paint and liquid resin and can take up to 150 hours of intense work to create.

Monochrome photography and abstract textures collide in works from newly-featured artist, Robbert Fortgens, with impressive results. Duo, Cats & Withoos present beautifully manipulated photographs and much, much more – as easy as it would be to go on in detail about all the artworks featured, I will restrain myself and simply recommend you visit the exhibition yourself to draw your own conclusions!

Impressive and thought-provoking, the exhibition offers a refreshing mix of international artists. An explosion of colour through dreamy, abstract works combining fantasy and reality in different mediums, ‘Live your dream’ is well worth a visit.

The Red Penguin Art Gallery is at El Capricho, El Corte Inglés on Blv. Alfonso von Hohenlohe in Marbella and the exhibition is open Monday – Saturday 10:00 – 21:00.
