The huge Princess Hotel in Estepona will soon boast a little bit of Greek flavour to complement its Andalusian location.

Traditionally, Spain and Greece have been fierce rivals when it comes to tourism.

Both nations boast enviable Mediterranean locations and climates, and while Spain has certainly been besting Greece in terms of visitor numbers these past few years, Greece can still pack a hefty punch when it comes to pristine beaches, glistening shorelines and affordable accommodation

Which is why the news that Greek holiday chain Ikos Resorts is to buy a landmark Costa del Sol hotel comes as something of a surprise. The Princess Hotel in Estepona is a well-regarded establishment and one of the region’s best hotels, boasting excellent beach access and some superb reviews.

Ikos Resorts, which specialises in all-inclusive holidays on the Greek mainland and also Corfu and Kos, is an upmarket chain that will certainly know how to get the best out of the Costa del Sol location.

The revamp will cost €150 million and be completed by 2020, and the Princess Hotel’s new name will be Ikos Andalusia, which has a certain pan-Mediterranean charm to it.

Estepona has always been a landmark destination for travellers seeking an ideal balance of sun, sea, lifestyle and culture,” said Ikos Resorts’ chief sales and marketing officer Antonis Avdelas.

“We are therefore excited to introduce our unique all-inclusive experience and the amazing Infinite Lifestyle promise to Spain by transforming the existing property within the sustainable framework of Ikos Green.
