In amongst the assortment of goings-on and various cultural events on the Costa del Sol this weekend, we’ve scoured the web for local festivals and other interesting events, of which three stood out…

For bike-lovers living in – or visiting – Málaga, the stars seem to have aligned and there are some significant two-wheeled events taking place in the province’s capital this weekend.

One of said events is the 16th annual Bicycle Day on Sunday, which will see over 15,000 participants take part in one of two non-competitive fun-rides; one 12 kilometres in length and the other 5.5 kilometres. In order for both rides to be completed by 12:00, the longer of the two kicks off at 10:00 and the shorter is due to start at approximately 10:45.

There is still time to put your name down for this event! You can register for free by heading down to El Corte Inglés – the main sponsor of the initiative – either today or tomorrow and signing up at either one of the Málaga city centre or Málaga Bay stores.

The second, and less hands-on, bicycle event is the Vans BMX Pro Cup World Tour in the Málaga Skate Park, which runs from today through until Sunday. It is, in fact, the grand final of the 2018 World Championship (usually held in California, USA) and the planet’s best riders will all be present to battle it out for the respective men’s and women’s world crown.

Even if airspins, half-pipes, icepick grinds, dropouts and tailwhips aren’t your thing, entrance to the event is free and the weather is due to be sunny and warm all weekend! For more information, and to follow the competition by live stream, this is the link you’ll need: www.vansbmxprocup.com

The third of our suggestions for this weekend is the hugely popular Romería de San Miguel in Torremolinos, which takes place on Sunday. This is a religious pilgrimage that starts on Avenida de los Manantiales in the town centre and winds its way over to the Chapel of San Miguel roughly three kilometres away.

Far from an insignificant and parroquial congregation, the Romería de San Miguel – with its procession of an expected 59 floats this year – is actually considered the most important urban pilgrimage in the whole of Spain and has been named a Festivity of National Tourist Interest.

In true Spanish style, this is then followed by several days of street parties and celebration, as the fiesta del pueblo, or town festival, follows the pilgrimage to the Chapel of San Miguel and runs until Sunday 30th September.

Have we missed anything out? Let us know what you’re up to on the sunny Costa del Sol this weekend and if you liked our suggestions!
