Leading Spanish investment bank BBVA has increased its forecast for the country’s real estate market growth in 2017 after a better-than-expected summer in which property sales surpassed all expectations.

In the latest BBVA Research report, the bank has increased its investment forecast for Spanish property by 1.7%, with the experts confident that total investment in the sector in 2017 will be 8.2% higher than last year…

In 2018, the strength of Spain's property market will be even more evident, with home sales predicted to surpass 500,000.

The estimated numbers of properties expected to be sold in Spain in 2018 is 526,000 – a 9.3% increase on the 481,000 home sales likely to be recorded in 2017.

Next year’s anticipated growth will also usher in an average national price increase of 6.1%, which is slightly lower than the 6.9% price increases registered this year. Affordability will still be the name of the game in 2018, however, because even with the expected 6.1% price increase the average Spanish home value will still be 27% below 2007’s peak…

As recent news events have shown, Spain’s 17 autonomous regions are rightly proud of their identity, which is wrapped up in everything from cuisine and language to culture and history.

But one of the most famous corners of Spain isn’t an autonomous region whatsoever. The Costa del Sol is a relatively loosely defined slice of southern Spain’s eastern coastline. Much of the area falls under the jurisdiction of Málaga province, but speak to somebody in, say, Manilva whether they feel like they are part of Málaga and they will most likely say no.

All of the Costa del Sol, however, is within the autonomous region of Andalucía – a fact that does give the region a distinctive uniformity in terms of climate, terrain, cuisine.

But drill down to an even more regional level, and the Costa del Sol’s unique strengths become apparent.
