The dream of a home in Spain is very real for many Brits, and demand is increasing month by month.

There may be a great deal of uncertainty clouding both Spain’s and the UK’s future political direction – the former with its ongoing ruling party impasse, the latter with its EU In/Out decision pending – but one certainty that remains reassuringly robust is the Brits’ love affair with Spanish property

According to the latest ranking from The MoveChannel.com’s Top of the Props report, enquiries for Spanish property from Brits accounted for 5.63% of activity on the website in March.

This was up from 3.48% in February and meant that Spain was the most-searched for European destination for the month, beating out Portugal, France and Italy.

European destinations accounted for half of the top ten, which was headed by US property enquiries – home searches in the USA accounted for more than 14% of activity, which experts have put down to the pound’s current strength against the US dollar.

The pound has weakened against the euro in that time, but even so, demand for Spanish property has risen rather than fallen.

“Britain may be debating a Brexit,” said TheMoveChannel.com Director Dan Johnson, “but buyers are still in love with European property. Despite the pound weakening against the euro in recent months, demand remains strong for the continent’s familiar holiday home hotspots, with Spain, Portugal, Italy and France all still in the top ten.”
