Movember

Pay lip service to Movember's morals to sell your property

Movember is upon us once again. No, that’s not a typo – we really did mean to write Movember, the mustachioed movement dedicated to raising awareness of male prostate cancer.

For those who don’t know it, Movember is a fun and inventive way for the traditionally obtuse unfairer sex, aka males, to show their support for a good cause. Participation is simple, the message is clear, and its popularity is rising exponentially each year.

But what’s it got to do with selling your property? Well, there are certain rules a Mo Bro has to follow in order to have the best chance of raising money for their chosen charity. Of course, they don’t have to follow these rules per se, but if they do they stand a better chance of raising their profile and generating greater interest.

Similar techniques and an equally adaptive mindset work just as well when selling your property. So if you are looking to unload your home in Spain, mimic the Movember mindset and follow these simple guidelines…

Put your ego aside

Mo Bros get a little bit of stick, it must be said. The movement has been accused of pandering to the posturings of hipsters and others seeking nothing more than a hirsute pursuit. But in general, most men don’t really like the idea of growing a moustache. It makes many of them look and feel stupid, but they partake nonetheless for the greater good.

If you want to sell your home, it pays to think along the same lines. You need to make sure your property is as well presented as possible, so this might mean that your own idea of what makes a home welcoming has to take a back seat. You might have to listen to the experts instead, and present a home that is likely to appeal to as broad an audience as possible. This is no time for ego – this is the time to sell.

Market yourself

Most successful Mo Bros will have their own Just Giving page, which makes it incredibly easy for their friends, family and colleagues to make direct donations to their cause. They will also take regular photos of their fizzog and upload them to Twitter and Facebook, keeping everybody updated on their progress, and hopefully eliciting even more donations.

You have to do likewise when selling your home. Have professional photographs taken and be sure to utilise a highly visible property portal that will show your home in its best light and to as many potential buyers as possible. VIVA does all of this for you and more, so speak to us today to find out how to get your home seen by as many pairs of eyes as possible.

Be patient

The first rule of Movember Club is: you have to start the month clean-shaven. That’s right – no stubble, no goatee, no beard. No facial hair whatsoever. The second rule is that the moustache cannot be connected to sideburns or chin hair. The third rule is that the remainder of your face must stay clean-shaven. This invariably means that the first week is spent looking like you’ve a particularly wispy caterpillar crawling lazily across your top lip.

Those first ten days or so are challenging. You look and feel silly. It’s itchy, and the donations are likely to be off to a slow start. But persist and the rewards come – you learn to like your ‘tache as it grows some depth and body and lends your face a certain louche character. And donations start snowballing too.

A similar level of faith and patience is required when you put your property on the market. Interest might be initially slow, enquiries erratic, and your own understanding of how the procedure works a little uncomfortable. But stay patient, make yourself available for appointments, keep smiling and don’t lose heart and you are much more likely to sell.

There are rules, and then there are mindsets. Be proactive but relaxed, confident but humble, and patient but forthcoming, and you will make it much easier to sell your property.

In short, become a Mo Bro by proxy and shave months off the property selling process.
