Say cheers to Spain’s first beer spa, which has opened in Granada.

Beer spas are already immensely, and unsurprisingly, popular in Germany, where the nation’s inhabitants’ love for lager and lazing around in bathrobes is legendary.

The typical beer spa invites patrons to enjoy all sorts of pampering treatments using warm, or sometimes hot, ales and beers to reinvigorate the skin, mind and body…

And their popularity appears to be spreading: the UK recently opened a round of beer spas across the country, and now Spain is getting in on the act with its first such establishment in Andalucía.

Located in Granada, the aptly named Beer Spa Granada is supplied by local brewer Alhambra to ensure that guests always have a fresh supply of the hoppy stuff to help ease aching muscles, freshen the skin and speed up the removal of toxins in the body.

The new spa has a range of beer-themed treatments, not least the beer bath, which is a deep barrel filled with warm beer and additional hops, malt and cinnamon. The effect itself is not intoxicating in the traditional beer sense, but the aromas are said to be extremely relaxing.

Patrons can also unwind further by laying on a bed of barley.

Of course, it would have been a missed trick indeed if the spa did not have an onsite drinking bar and restaurant for those who give in to temptation – and thankfully the spa only serves beer fresh from the tap, rather than reuse the stuff from the spa.

So if you’re looking for a completely new way to relax and unwind, now you can really hit the beers without feeling too guilty or groggy…
