Aesthetically beautiful beachside town

The historic fishing town of Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol, is so-called for many reasons. One of them is its picturesque location on the golden, sunny shores of the Mediterranean, where no less than four Blue Flag certified beaches stretch for 21 kilometres on its seaside; while the organic beauty of the Sierra Bermeja Natural Area provides a stunning backdrop to the north of the town.

Another reason it has been given such a complimentary title is the beautification project it underwent several years ago. The opening of the breathtaking Orchidarium in the town centre, the adornment of streets with hanging flower pots (which beautifully contrast against the whitewashed walls of the traditional Andalucian houses) and the pedestrianisation of many of its streets have transformed Estepona into a colourful garden paradise on the Costa del Sol.

More than just a garden

Just 25 kilometres from the iconic Puerto Banús and Marbella in one direction and just a 45-minute drive to Gibraltar the other way, Estepona’s location is, for many, ideal. Both Málaga and Gibraltar international airports are under an hour’s drive away, while it is also a perfect home base for day trips to all corners of western Andalucía and even north Africa.

More reasons to love Estepona include its affordability for eating out, great local seafood restaurants, bodegas, tapas bars and quiet cafés and laid-back way of life. For those seeking a livelier scene, there are also several late-night clubs and bars, as well as exclusive beach clubs for enjoying a bottle of bubbly during southern Spain’s long summer days.

All of these factors combined mean that Estepona is an extremely sought-after area for foreign homebuyers moving to Spain for the incomparable quality of life. In fact, it was the most desirable location in Málaga province for UK buyers in 2017.
