Marbella

More and more tourists have cottoned-on to the enduring delights of Marbella

Marbella has joined Málaga, Seville, Córdoba and Granada in Spain’s top 10 resorts in the latest TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2014.

This is the first time that Marbella has made it into the top 10, with the resort’s Mayor, Maria Angeles Munoz, in attendance at the awards ceremony in Madrid to celebrate the landmark achievement.

Marbella’s inclusion in the top 10 means that Andalucia boasts half of Spain’s leading resort destinations – at least according to users of the travel site, who were polled over the past 12 months on their favoured holiday destinations…Worldwide, Istanbul snaffled top spot, just ahead of Rome and London. The highest-ranked Spanish destination was Barcelona, which came in 15th place. Madrid, Corralejo, Calvia and Soller were the other top-ranked Spanish resorts.

Seville took top-spot for Andalucía, and third overall in Spain. The beautiful city is home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a stunning climate and some of the finest tapas bars and bodegas in the country, so it was not difficult to see why the city received such an accolade.

But Marbella’s improved reputation is sure to be great news for local hoteliers and restaurateurs. Despite attracting millions of visitors each and every year, it never hurts to attract a broader base of tourists – something which international recognition from TripAdvisor’s annual Travellers’ Choice Awards will most certainly generate.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Munoz paid recognition to the efforts and hard work made over the past few years to reinforce the image of Marbella as a rounded tourist destination suitable for all types of travellers, holidaymakers and visitors.
