Ignacio Oslé of Taylor Wimpey España

Ignacio Oslé is definitely a man with boundless energy and determination. A man on the go. If you can catch him standing still for more than a minute then you will also be charmed by his enthusiasm for life and his work.

Ignacio is Taylor Wimpey España’s Regional Director Andalucía and a bit of a multi-tasker as we found out…

Are you a native Andaluz?

Absolutely not, I am a northerner, from Pamplona, home of the famous annual Pamplona Bull Run. It’s the capital of the autonomous community of Navarra, a region of spectacular beauty and great wine!

I came to Andalucía for work, after spending time in both Madrid and London. I have been in Andalucía now for nine years, so I suppose I do feel a little Andaluz at times.

How does Andalucía compare with Navarra?

Well, Navarra is said to offer the best quality of life in Spain and it is indeed a wonderful place to live, but Marbella and the Costa del Sol have such an amazing climate. (I should point out that we are sitting in his office on a sunny December morning, and outside it’s 20°C).  In Andalucía we live an all-year round spring/summer climate, so I would say they are both on par for quality of life, just in different ways.

What do you get up to on your day off?

I love the outdoor life, all kinds of sport really: sailing, hiking in the mountains, running, golf and squash are some of my favourite activities. You could say I’m a jack of all sports, master of none!

Jump in the car and head away from the Coast, what would be your destination?

Cádiz without doubt. I love being spontaneous, grabbing my car keys and heading to CádizIf I am feeling like relaxing I head to the Las Playas de Rota, Chipiona and the coast of the Costa de la Luz. If I am feeling energetic then I head to the stunning Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park where I can hike and walk to my heart’s content.

Is there such a thing as a typical day in the office?

Yes and no. My title is Regional Director Andalucía and that covers quite a lot of departments. We currently have three projects in Andalucía – La Floresta in La Mairena, Avalon in Los Arqueros Golf and Los Arqueros Beach in San Pedro – and I manage all aspects of the business from finding and buying land and managing the legalities of the land with the local ayuntamientos… to sales and marketing for each project and also managing the Los Arqueros golf course. Luckily I am a pretty organised person and I plan my day so each element is prioritised and touched on during the day.

Of course I have a wonderful team supporting me, but you are kind of the conductor of an orchestra and have to ensure that you have conveyed the correct message to every single member of the orchestra and that each instrument section is finely tuned.

What’s your favourite beach on the Costa del Sol?

Without doubt my favourite beach zone is the Paseo Marítimo in Marbella. There is so much life and vitality, I love jogging along the paseo, even at nighttime. I think it is one of the most beautiful Paseo Marítimos in Spain.

What’s your top tip when moving to Spain?

Have patience when you are dealing with bureaucratic and service issues. Remember they can be frustrating in your native country, here you are just dealing with the same, but in another language. But I promise if you go in with a calm mind and a big smile, Andalucía will have a bigger smile for you.

What does 2013 hold in store for you?

It’s the year of recovery for the Costa del Sol. I think it is going to take a little longer for the rest of Spain, but Marbella and the Costa will be better off economically and we are going to have a good year!

We’re with you on that one Ignacio!
