Good Friday and time to settle down in front of the gogglebox. Easter TV in the UK is usually a mixed bag of new Springtime specials, made-for-TV biblical epics and, of course, the Great Escape

But this year viewers of Channel 4 were treated to a superbly funny insight into that great Andalusian city, Seville. Travel Man; 48 Hours in Seville followed a simple premise: actor and comedian Richard Ayoade spent two days in “the frying pan of Europe” with US comic Rob Delaney, and duly discovered the delights and sun-drenched splendour of this amazing city.

For Delaney, Seville was simply love at first sight. “Beautiful, incredible food, wonderful building. A+, out of the gate,” he enthused. Well spotted, Delaney.

From the epic Plaza de Espana to the incredible Alcazar, Seville is primed and ready to impress all ages. For the two comedians, however, it was the warren of traditional tapas bars that turned their heads. Flush with jamón ibérico, a few beers and not a little local sherry, Ayoade and Delaney waxed lyrical on the virtues of Seville, and also managed to head out of the city limits to the Almería to take in the famous Western theme park – backdrop to many Western movies made by Hollywood over the decades.

Sunny, accessible, traditional and achingly beautiful, Seville really is a jewel in Andalucía’s crown, and Travel Man certainly shone a favourable light on this most captivating of all Spanish cities. If you still haven’t made the trip across the sun-baked plains towards Seville, do it soonthe high summer temperatures can be off-putting for many, whereas Springtime is the perfect time to visit.

In case you missed it, you can catch Travel Man: 48 hours in Seville on Channel Four’s On Demand online service.
